Current Local Positions

Support for improving existing recreational space within the city by (1) preserving and acquiring natural areas, and (2) maintaining recreational areas in high density neighborhoods.

Transportation

Support of a public transit system in the Lynchburg area with extension of service to outlying areas as necessary and financially feasible.

Elementary Schools

Support for early identification and treatment of children with behavior and adjustment problems in the Lynchburg Public Elementary Schools, and for the provision of qualified personnel to facilitate the identification and delivery of services to these children (retained in January 1991 with special attention given to state and local budget cuts.)

Housing

Support public and private initiatives to meet the need of low-income housing in Lynchburg.

Two Tier System of Local Real Estate (Property) Taxes

Support the adoption of a system of property tax in which the land is taxed at a different and higher rate than improvements (buildings.)

Downtown Revitalization

LWVL supports efforts for downtown revitalization that include private and/or public funding, service the diversity of the city, and result in tangible or intangible benefits for the city.
